About Us
A group of families who enjoyed exploring all of Arizona with their mules (and even a few horses) wanted to share their enthusiasm with other people. On August 14, 1989 the first meeting of the Arizona Mule and Donkey Association was held and the organization has continued to grow ever since.
The club now consists of about 80 families. Some of the members are “snowbirds”, coming to the warmer parts of Arizona to enjoy winter riding and then heading home when our temperatures rise in the summer. Throughout the year numerous day and weekend rides are hosted in various parts of the state, usually depending on temperatures again – desert riding in the winter, then rides in higher elevations of the state in the summer. A “fun day” is usually held once a year to show off arena skills of our animals.
Three annual rides are planned each year: the membership ride in February, a week-long campout in July or August, and a Thanksgiving outing and annual meeting in November.
AMDA is open to anyone interested in mules and donkeys or in enjoying riding the varied landscape of Arizona.
